CREATE THE NEW EXPERIENCE OF LIGHT
BY REFLECTING THE TRUE AUTHENTIC OF THE MATERIAL
NOTION OF FLOAT
Float is a conceptual interactive lighting fixture focuses on the "quality" of light which embodies the materiality of the metal, displaying the characteristic of metal's cool and warm nature. FLOAT allows people to experience this sculpture that changes the quality of the environment by the subtle differences of light being reflected from different metal surfaces of the center piece.
Bright, warm and dim
Toggle between modes for the most ideal ambient
1 / Three touch switches
2 / Light source A - Bright brass reflection
3 / Light source B - Warm copper reflection
4 / Light source C - Dim black reflection
5 / Center piece with different surface finishes
touch the experience
It's important to touch for different ambient effect than pushing a button for switching to different modes. I believe this complete the subtlety of this piece.
prototype
Prototype was made from Arduino, off the shelf touch sensor and CNC hardwood. Metal pieces were CNC, plated and polished. It's critical to go through this exercise to proof the concept.
between space and object
I believe the beauty of the subtleness of the material. Nowadays, people can easily get any color of the light we wanted by RGB led yet I believe there are quality that LED can never mimic. FLOAT is not about light nor the piece but to experience the subtle difference of different qualities of space created by light reflected of different material surfaces.
“Too much technology.”
